[SOLVED] Need to block later versions of Linux kernel but don't know how.

Whenever I update @world, a newer version of the Linux kernel that I don't need will be included to the list of updates and installations. I do not see a reason why I should upgrade my kernel when I never swap components of or upgrade my unupgradable 2005 Dell OptiPlex.

When I do install the new version of the kernel, I would type emerge --depclean, and it attempt to delete my original kernel.

If there is a solution to how to skip the later versions, please answer.

In case it is of any use to you: the first thing I do on every single Gentoo install is to add sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-9999 to packages.provided and then symlink /usr/src/linux to my kernel sources.

I maintain my kernels manually and use vanilla sources from kernel.org. It's just easier, and with that in packages.provided gentoo won't ever bother you about kernel upgrades.
