binary discord app mix up steam game channel headphone channel with microphone
This is more a personal experience story than a post about a question:
I installed first time discord, from the portage tree.
Today i plugged in my modem, my notebook, did a coldboot. than i started discord, than i started steam to play star conflict. star conflict sound was working fine, but discord was not working.
i killed the processes from discord with the cli tools
later i was kicked out of the channel, as it seems discord was transmitting my game channel sound = headphone channel to the microphone channel.
I submitted a bug report to discord. (they only have some support form to fill out)
Is it just me, or are all those binary voice chat software broken, which includes skype and teamspeak?
only mumble was working reliable in the past after setting up the microphone channel correctly with OSS.

I came to the conclusion to unmerge discord, as it has the software quality from spyware 95 software in my point of view. Binaries are a security risk. and when i use it, i expect that it works always. because it is a binary and binaries can not be fixed, looked into.
I do not run something fancy.
proven stable kernel: 4.9.96 long term kernel branch
openrc + eudev (more stable as systemd)
pulseaudio and alsa (stable, as it works since many years here flawless. pulseaudio is much better as the other stuff i used before.)
edit: of course youtube in google chrome worked flawless too at that point. I freshly started google chrome to test out if youtube was working, or if i had an issue with pulseaudio or alsa. which was not the case, as only discord was broken. I know quite well when pulseuadio acts up and how to handle that
