On the verge of sounding a male chauvinist , i really can say girls are not much into linux, or even computers for that matter. WHY? Honestly i don't know. Most of them i know(there are by far and few) aint even aware of Linux. All they use computers is to chat and some music. I have yet to meet a girl who's as passionate about Linux(or computers) as me. And please don't tell me 'i got a girlfriend who uses this distro or that app...' They are using it because you introduced them to it(i suppose). When was the last time a girl came up to you and talked about this hot new virtualization server or that new software thingy!! i guess never. Hell they don't even play games!! Ah games, those fantastic piece of codes.... Yet most of us, no not us, most of you(i'm a loner ), prefer to go out with your gf's than test this new awesome distro. Am i right? Of course i'm right. I'm looking out for a tuxgirl(if you will) but no hope till now . Man they are a complex breed.
Haha sorry to break your dreams, but I have met (I still do) girls that have used Linux before we met. I can't really say they're so enthusiastic about it that they'd rather start guru'ing around with Linux and me than going out, but at least they prefer it over the other OSes. I even started using Linux because a girl recommended it to me, and that was before the kernel version turned 2
But it is true, to some extent at least, that there are more Linux-interested guys around than girls. Maybe the reason is similar to that why I don't go nuts seeing a Gucci handbag at the store for a reasonable price (well talking about it, that's an impossibility) and go buy it like there was no tomorrow..
From what I hear its something to do with how male and female brains work. Men, in general, get more of a kick out of telling a computer to do something and seeing the results. For women computers are tools. For men computers are toys. This extends to many other areas outside of computers, of course this is all horribly generalised although it kinda makes sense...

That is because men are use to being told what to do by women (the honey do list). So computers are like a role playing game, the men are in charge when they are in front of the computer. An added bonus is, no sleeping on the couch when you say the wrong thing, just a syntax error.
One of the clients that I do contract IT work for just hired a girl who is a php programmer and a Linux lover. She hosts her own online gaming community. I would say this is obviously not the norm, but girls like this are out there.
