Originally posted by jeremy Just to clarify. Religious threads in and of them self are fine. They do tend to stray into flamewars, arguments, insults, etc however. If they dont they will stay open, but as soon as it looks as though that's the direction the thread is going in it will get closed (as a general rule theads/posts do not get deleted around here). Like I have already said - everyone is welcome. I hope you'll find LQ better then LNO As always I am looking for feedback, suggestions, etc. If you have any head on over to the suggestions forum and let me know (and don't forget to vote in the 2002 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards). You seem like a great bunch, BTW - have fun!

Thats good to hear. Most of the people involved in "the" religious thread at JL acted in a fair and reasonable manner. There were obviously a few who took things to extremes and they were dealt with accordingly. As moderators would it not be possible in a thread of any type to issue a warning as opposed to closing/locking the thread? Just a thought so we know the limits although I hope we never push that limit.

That's sad, when sensei was there several of us kept trying to outdo the other with posts in general and technical. I was even with them until he left. They became mods. I was helping at a time when RTFM had never passed from his lips.

thank you for having us. as wb stated we are pretty level headed when it comes to our discussions/debates. we don't like to get into flame wars, just doesn't make sense. by what i'm seeing i like this site better all ready. there's not three posts in a row on how to set up my sound card, printer, web,....
so again thank you jeremy for the confidence that you are showing us and for the open mind to all of the new people to your site.
Last i remember that guy had the most random posts...really weird ones actually. Remember when he went crazy for a while? Who cares what he thinks...the mods dont really think highly of him anyways.

My bad, I thought it might have come from MD...didn't realize it was from slappy. Totally different story there. I don't think he ever posted but one post that was on topic in the years I knew him.

To be honest when I started reading the whole thread about you I was a little leary of you. As you started to reply calmly to the bashing you were recieving I learned that you definitely deserved respect. That one little line also raises my respect for you. I long ago abandoned organized religion this in no way reflects the fact that I do believe that there is something larger than us somewhere out there. So Thumbs up WB

Thank you, if a religous thread (that's not about religous fanaticism towards a person's favorite editor that is) does get started, its only fair that it be axed if it loses its constructive qualities. Abeit, we had a whopper of one going before, I would have to say that they are far and few between in occurance. I look forward to helping out in any way I can.

I told everyone long ago that I would debate anything, in the form of debate, despite personal feelings, but that I detested any of those organized things that created a separation between one man and another(man as in human, no slight to the fairer sex intended). I try to be even-keeled in all things. That thread was at times hurtful to my pride, but the rush of those to my defense, though I asked it not, was touching. That is camraderie, knowing someone's got your back, without the need to ask it.
