samba complains home directory doesn't exist???

Hello all,

I have been struggling with getting samba to work on my FC 6 machine for months now and I thought I was making some head way until I ran into this problem that I can't seem to get around.

As it stands right now, I am trying to share my home directory so that I can get to my files from another machine on my network.

When I try to connect from another machine using the smbclient command I get the following error:
Code:
mordor:~lem$ smbclient //FC6/lem -U lem
Password:
Domain=[FC6] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.24-7.fc6]
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
On the FC6 system the log file for the system connecting shows:
Code:
[2007/08/18 20:54:59, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(920)
  '/home/lem' does not exist or permission denied when connecting to [LEM] Error was Permission denied
I don't know how this could be a permission denied when I clearly am the owner of those files and I am logging in as the owner. My mapping file shows as follows:
Code:
[root@FC6 samba]# more smbusers
# Unix_name = SMB_name1 SMB_name2 ...
root = administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
lem = lem
And my smb.conf entry for the directory I am trying to share shows as follows:

Code:
[global]
workgroup = HOME
server string = Samba Server
security = user
dns proxy = no

[homes]
        comment = Home Directories
        browseable = no
        writeable = yes

[LEM]
        path = /home/lem
        valid users = lem
        writable = yes
        public = yes

If you have the homes section, you shouldn't need the separate LEM section unless you have extra users etc, to add to it. If that's the case, have you tried lem instead of LEM?

I commented out LEM section and still got the same error. I also changed LEM to lem and I also still got the same error. This is of course after restarting the smb/nmb service each time I made the change to the smb. conf file.

I also tried commenting out the [homes] section and restarted the smb/nmb service and still got the same error.

As for the ping tests, each machine can ping each other machine as well as themselves:.

From samba host:
Code:
[root@FC6 samba]# ping FC6
PING FC6 (192.168.11.102) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from FC6 (192.168.11.102): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.149 ms
64 bytes from FC6 (192.168.11.102): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.142 ms
64 bytes from FC6 (192.168.11.102): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.137 ms

--- FC6 ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.137/0.142/0.149/0.014 ms

[root@FC6 samba]# ping localhost
PING FC6.localdomain (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from FC6.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.114 ms
64 bytes from FC6.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.141 ms
64 bytes from FC6.localdomain (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.146 ms

--- FC6.localdomain ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 2000ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.114/0.133/0.146/0.019 ms
From smb client:
Code:
mordor:lem$ ping FC6
PING FC6 (192.168.11.102): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.11.102: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=3.416 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.11.102: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=3.449 ms
^C
--- FC6 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 3.416/3.432/3.449 ms
