My first post! How do I load Fedora on CD?

I am a real newbie to Linux and my first post here, so hi to you all!

I have downloaded the ISO files of Fedora. But how do I install it to CD, and then how do I then load that to my Slave Drive? Do I load the 4 ISO files to the CD and then boot from it?

I have seen many help sections but they do not say how...strange, they always leave out the part that you need to know.

You need to burn each ISO image to a seperate CD. Label each one, and boot the computer from disk 1.

You can use any CD burning program to burn an ISO image (also called an ISO9660 image) file, such as Nero for Windows or cdrecorder/k3b for Linux.

To install onto your slave IDE drive, just follow the instructions. Your slave drive will be called hdb (primary channel) or hdd (secondary channel). You will need to repartition the disk; the installer can take care of this for you but note that this does involve wiping any data on the disk.

Bootable for 1. Either for disks 2,3 and 4, but I'd use bootable.

Nero

Try bootable for 1 as suggested. My experience was to select data cd -- burn image for all 4 Fedora Core 3 CD's. After you burn them be sure to open each disk in Windows and check that there are many files vs. just 1 file which means the ISO image was not burned.

When you load Disk 1 for install, be sure to take advantage of Fedora Core 3 media check -- this will check each of the 4 cd's for you to ensure media integrity. Follow the screen prompts, they made it so even I could not screw it up!

I only posted this because I had to mess around a bit with Nero before the ISO's burned correctly.

Good Luck.

Thanks, last night I could not use the "bootable" because it would only show the A: and not E:. So I burned it using the "more" and "save track to HDD". This gave me the option of the file .iso. The files extracted somehow, but it would not boot.

I will try the data way as you suggested now.

Thanks

Nero

BTW--Some versions of nero just don't do well with burning ISO files. I don't know why. If you open the cd's in windows and see many files--which happened with me and still all four discs failed the Fedora media check. My suggestion, don't waste 100 cd's and plenty of frustration like I did. Go online and google for "Fedora 3 install cd set" and spend the $5. They'll send them to you and you can install away.

Also, if you haven't done so already, spend a bit of time on this site and/or google for the "linux file system". It is worth spending time understanding how the linux and specifically the Fedora Core 3 directory structure is organized. A few helpful links may include:

http://www.icon.co.za/~psheer/book/
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/s...nley/fc3_note/
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mj...-fc3.shtml#ttf

The Stanton Finley site was great to just get things working. These are just a few resources. I'm sure others may recommend different and/or better ones. At least this will give you a good beginning. I knew nothing about Linux and did no research prior to installing Fedora 3. This was a big mistake.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all your help.

I willlook into this and spend the $5. I am sure to pick your brains in the near future when I have it all up and running.
