LAMP install gets all screwy

Alrighty, I installed a LAMP setup so I could use Mambo CMS. By accident I originally installed Apache 1.3.33 instead of Apache 2. When I apt-get remove apache, it says it's has uninstalled it, and when I list the installed applications it is no longer there, but I can "/etc/init.d/apache start" and it starts back up and works perfectly. I can even install apache2, but when I see what apache is running it's always apache 1.3.

What the heck is going on here? In my attempt to manually uninstall apache 1.3 I f'ed everything up so I'm not going to be able to try any suggestions but if somebody has experienced this before, I would like to know. Also, other than being silly enough to try to uninstall this manually, if I did something wrong, please point this out as well.

I guess this is a mini-bump, but I have a further issue. This whole setting MySQL, Apache, and PHP4 thing is getting way too crazy. I want to use Apache2, but everytime I install PHP4, it installs apache-common which is 1.3. This really messes up my Webmin. How can I install PHP4 without it bringing in the Apache 1.3 stuff?
