Here is another important factor. I had stable before and it will not download k3b. If I get the testing branch and have problems then what happens ?
On the Debian site it says there is support only for the Stable branch.

A catch22 situation.

"stable" branch is very old. Upgrade to testing.

Use synaptic also. That's easier than the command line "apt" and you can search for packages on the internet easily that way.

This will retrieve all the updates and upgrades and will download them. It will take a long time if you have a slow internet connection, so do it at night.
Before you do this you might want to read the installation notes for the version you are going to.

From sarge release notes "It is important to upgrade apt, dpkg and debconf before you do the majority of the upgrade. Apt has been considerably improved since the previous releases. Debconf is an essential tool which is in extensive use in recent packages.

apt-get install dpkg apt debconf"

Thanks Steve. Most of my problems seem to be beacuse I am
using a much older version of the distro. So, I have decided
to upgrade.

I will read the release notes as suggested. I am starting a
new topic entitled upgrade issues as tehre are some related factors
to discuss.

This is a good thread that needs to continue. Let us get back to topic here
'The Best Debian Package that you like.' This topic is even more so
important as I read a page on making Debian Packages.
It said anyone can make their own Debian Packages and give it away.
Such third party Debian packages also exist that are not
on the main package repositories. Knowing and sharing info.
on them will benefit all.

Best Regards,

Vijay

Two in this post.

a. alien
Helps to convert Other format packages to Debian Format
(still experimental)

b. prozilla and prozgui
Downloads accelerator.

Wish there was a Debian Package for Downloader for X, Heard this is real good.

Thanks I did get d4x and tried it. It worked OK at teh start and then
the speed dropped probably due to the server at the other end.
Will use this some more to get familiar.

FRESH REQUEST
I don't have splash on my PC and hence, can't
see web pages with splash on them.

Is there any Debian package(s) to install Splash easily
on my PC ?

Thanks.

Interesting Read. How to Make your own Debian Package:

http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8047723203.html

Please also share in this thread any good Debian Packages outside of the Debian
repository and as well as any Debian Packages
that you made from other Packages using alien.

Thank You in advance.

Many of the above are Linux packages and not Debian specific...

I find the package 'configure-debian' very useful.
