"apt-get update" error

I get the following error when I last tried to re-load my package list
Code:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the list directory
I was logged in as root, so I cannot imagine what the problem might be here.

Are you sure you were logged in as root ? This is normally the error you get when attempting to run apt-get update as a normal user. Also, check this thread: http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtop...218346b16b2ade.

Cheers,

mj

I did it from an 'su' terminal.

Actually it worked after a couple of retries. But now the problem is that the process of updating packages list is terminated halfway due to server timeout.

You may want to add a few more servers to your sources.list, in that case. It may even be worth bugging your ISP to host a mirror

Cheers,

mj
