DSL hangs on shutdown

I have DSL 0.9.2 installed to the hard disk on my P166 32MB laptop. ( I know, you aren't supposed to install DSL but it runs sooo much faster). When I do a shutdown (right click on desktop and select "shutdown) it hangs with X still running, the keyboard is locked out but I can still open cand close windows with the mouse. I'v tried opening a console session and issuing a "shutdown now" from the commandline and get the same results. The machine did originaly startup and shutdown correctly when first installed, all I have done is configre my wireless card (works great by the way) and changed xinitrc to not load dillo on startup. I ave not installed anything else. I looked in /var/log/messages for any hints but all I see are messages from the DHCP client coming up, no clues as to what is not shuttin gdown or why.

Any suggestions as to where to look appreciated, Thanks Larry.
