#How to Install a Linux Winmodem (read this all first).
From
www.linuxclube.com
This problem happens many gnu/linux newbes.
This problem began just when 3com had the terrible IDEA to begin manufactoring Winmodems!!!
This little Howto explains step-by-step how to install this "boring" modem!
Tested in:
-Conectiva GNU/Linux (possibly works in RedHat).
-U.S Robotics 56k voice int(This method may work on Lucent).
#inicio
1 - Create aserial port (non standard)
[root@localhost /]# cd /dev
[root@localhost /dev]# ./MAKEDEV ttyS6 (ttySx anyone upper than 3)
2 - Modem address???
[root@localhost]# cat /proc/pci
Look for:
Bus 0, device 11, function 0:
Serial controller: US Robotics/3Com 56K FaxModem Model 5610(ou Unknown vendor Unknown device)(rev 1).
IRQ 9.I/O at 0xdff0 [0xdff7].
Now look for IRQ:
IRQ: 9(o seu) e I/O 0xdc00[0xdc01]
Write down these data (IRQ e I/O)
3 - Change data using setserial
[root@localhost /dev]# setserial /dev/ttyS6 port (seu endereço I/O) irq (seu numero de irq) uart 16550a
ex.
[root@localhost /dev]# setserial /dev/ttyS6 port 0xdc00 irq 9 uart 16550a
4 - For U.S Robotics modems
look for this package and make the download:
http://www.conectiva.com.br/~suporte-cl/rpm/3c2977...
5 - Installing package (RPM):
Atention: If the downloaded file is in /root, ok!
[root@localhost /]#cd /root
[root@localhost]# cp /root/3c2977-0.1-1cl.noarch.rpm /tmp
[root@localhost]# cd /tmp
[root@localhost /tmp]# rpm -ivh 3c2977-0.1-1cl.noarch.rpm
This Package will create a service with the following name:
3c2977.init
Now do the following:
[root@localhost]# cds
[root@localhost]# ./3c2977.init start
[root@localhost]# kwrite /etc/rc.d/rc.local
Write down the following line at the end of the file:
3c2977.init start
Now your modem must be working. If not, try to locate the correct name of the package for your modem.
On doubts post the forum (

Ok?!
