CentOS 6 reboots randomly

Hi Team,

Recently I found out that CentOS6 native kernel does not support hfs & hfsplus mounting. I searched online, found the supporting kernel modules & got it installed(kmod-hfsplus). Apparently, I am able to mount the external HDDs formatted with hfsplus, however, the server restarts when a read/write operation takes place from/to the HDD.

kmod-hfsplus from elrepo is what has been installed in the server for mounting hfsplus volumes.

Please help!

How did you "get it installed" ?

-- correct way
by installing the elrepo
and yum-priorities and CONFIGURING this plugin
then installing the kmod using yum

or

-- The wrong way

download a random rpm from the net
and use rpm to install the rpm without making sure that the prerequisites are met

Thanks for the reply John!

Found couple of links through Google where following steps were mentioned:
# rpm --import http://elrepo.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-elrepo.org
# rpm -Uvh http://www.elrepo.org/elrepo-release...epo.noarch.rpm
# yum install kmod-hfsplus

Could you please let me know what exactly needs to be configured for this plugin?

i take it you have NOT read the instructions on the wiki that the people over as Cent took a lot of time making

https://wiki.centos.org/FrontPage

how to install software repos
https://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalRe...s/Repositories
and for 6 the "Priorities"
https://wiki.centos.org/PackageManag...Yum/Priorities

it PROTECTS you from incompatible rpms from the third party sites

but it has to be installed and configured for it to WORK

cent6 is BETTER than cent5 was
BUT there are a LOT of rpms in the third party repos that can REPLACE CRITICAL SYSTEM FILES
with slightly DIFFERENT versions

sometimes these can FUBAR a install

if rpms built with different configurations are mixed

cent also moved over to using the documentation on the RedHat site
https://access.redhat.com/documentat...erprise-linux/
( whay have two sets when cent is really just a repackaged RHEL )
