i have a linksys router and dsl. my config is the same as urs. this box is 192.168.101 and my router is 192.168.1.1

ok, user error...typo in my resolv.conf

yes, should i not install kde 3.2 for a couple of days?

Yes for kde just wait a while.
Or if you really want to upgrade be aware of some little crash now and then in apps like kIIIb(if you use k3b don't upgrade for now)
