problems with sound

hi there,

I recently installed vector onto my system and i'm having a problem playing mp3's on it.

in kde the sounds work fine however when i try to play an mp3 i get the error "couldn't open audio" and i get similar errors with amaroK also.

it doesn't seem to be a privilages problem as it won't work when logged in as root either Sad

thanks for any help you can give me

Simon

So do you have alsa installed and configured and can you play a music cd with kde kscd? Your username is member of audio, cdrom, disk in /etc/group? Do you have option in mp3 player program to pick audio plugin? Can you pick gstreamer or ESD as plugin? Try that to see if it helps.Good luck.
