you can't have any other network device working on NLD or SUSE?. Well I have not yet boot up nor installed the other network device.

Will update you on the matter.
Thanks all

hi,

sorry for the very late reply.... I am actualy still R&D on the whole WLAN Situation. I did asked Novell Tech guy about the weird situation but he said there is no no such thing where you can only have one dhcp client device up while using SUSE/NLD. May be that happend on SuSe 9.3 or NLD SP2 in which I have none.

The step that I have given in detail is the only step that I have tested 3 time. Clear up ever thing and redo all. Yet I still have the problem you are having the essid any/off. But that is when I move from my Office to Home or vice versa.

what I can give you is this

man ifconfig
man iwconfig
man iwlist

by the way on your SuSe WLAN try not to put any ESSID--> on the onfiguration tool. I did put before but now i leave it blank.

try this if the essid is still null: iwlist wlan0 scanning --> what is your AP essid
iwconfig wlan0 essid Linksys or 'Linksys' or "Linksys" or any or on
iwconfig wlan0 commit --> force to accpet check more frm man

then restart you SuSe and your AP. Once boot up you should see that the PCI card is detectable but failed to obtain any IP. Login and then manualy activate the WLAN from NLD just select the WLAN and you shoud see the essid of your AP and select it. On SuSe Pro I am not sure.

Hope this will help you.

Hi Nuurul - i DID it! :)

Hello Nuurul

I can surf to internet using my wireless liao!

Here's the step - hope other newbies can learn from my note

1. can either update the ndiswrapper to latest version or just use the one provided by suse9.3 - ndiswrapper-1.1 version <--- im using the one provided by suse9.3
2. at root, type "ndiswrapper -l" to check any existing driver(s) being loaded. if any other existing drivers loaded, remove it by typing "ndiswrapper -e XXXX.INF" where XXXX stand for the driver name as indicated.
3. copy the whole WinXP driver, including the .sys, .inf, etc into an easy to remember folder, eg. /home/binbin/bin/wireless/ <--- this is the path of the folder
4. rename all the driver into CAP LETTERS, ie xxxx.inf into XXXX.INF, yyyy.sys to YYYY.SYS, etc.
5. install the new rename drivers by typing "ndiswrapper -i /home/binbin/bin/wireless/NETI.INF" <--- for example (the way i do it )
6. use a "SUPER USER FILE MANAGER" and surf to "/etc/modprobe.conf.local", then use an editor, eg Kate to add in "alias wlan0 ndiswrapper" into the last available line, remove the # if present.
7. at root, type "modprobe ndiswrapper"
8. next, type "rcnetwork restart"
9. next use YAST to configure the wireless driver - may be not detected. Mine was detected but not yet configured. So click on it to configure. it's under "Network Devices" & follow by "Network Card"
10. do the following changes - change to "wireless", rename the "device hardware" into say "inprocomm" or what-ever you wish. then under "Module" add "ndiswrapper" <-- very important!, set your own WEP key - either hexadecimal or whatever you wish.
11. then using the "Super User File Manager", rename the "ifcfg-wlan-xxxxxx" into "ifcfg-wlan0"
12. REBOOT the system, ie, restart! very important - sound like updating a window's driver ... shrug.

the following step is optional - to ensure that it appear at Kinternet ie to ensure that at all time it's working
13. use YAST, go to the "System" follow by "/etc/sysconfig.Editor". then go to "System" followed by "kernel" followed by "Modules_loaded_on_boot". change whatever is inside that textbox into "ndiswrapper" followed by clicking "finish"
14. Once again, REBOOT PC!
15. After reboot, go to YAST and Network Card, configure the ethernet card into "Never" of "ifplug" (it's under "Detailed Settings") to ensure that only either wireless is working or ethernet is working, not both. I choose "never" cos i dont have any ethernet connection hahaha
16. sorry, REBOOT again ...
17. after reboot, you can use the wireless! yipee!

all thanks to those who help me sorry, i forgot you guys names

enjoy!
