Unhappy Update and installing software problem

Hello,

I just installed SuSE 10 because I wanted to try it out.
I am not so happy with it yet because I cannot add new software nor update my computer. It set up the mirrors properly and Yast tells me that Firefox and a few other packages need to be updated, then it downloads the package ok but cannot install it. It says :

Error when installing package.
then it prompts if I want to try again, skip, skip everything or stop update.

What could be the reason ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hallo!

You may check /var/log/warn or /var/log/messages for further details.

Greetings

Oct 10 17:59:19 brusa gconfd (djib-11781): Sortie
in warn :
Code:
ct 10 13:32:56 brusa udevd[2308]: get_netlink_msg: no ACTION in payload found, skip event 'umount'
Oct 10 13:45:26 brusa udevd[2308]: get_netlink_msg: no ACTION in payload found, skip event 'mount'
Oct 10 13:45:29 brusa udevd[2308]: get_netlink_msg: no ACTION in payload found, skip event 'umount'
Oct 10 15:14:57 brusa udevd[2308]: get_netlink_msg: no ACTION in payload found, skip event 'mount'
Oct 10 15:53:55 brusa udevd[2308]: get_netlink_msg: no ACTION in payload found, skip event 'umount'
which I guess has nothing to do with it juging by the timestamp.

Some time since I tried to speak French -- but what the ist message is showing is that for some reason you can't connect to the server --either your Internet connection is broken, the server has the wrong address or it is actually down.

Cheers
