subfs mounting point

Hello,

I'am using Suse 10, when I insert a DVD, CD, Memory stick in /media a subdirectory is created. Ok, my questions:

1.) where can I change that directory?

2.) Where can I add my own script if a CD is inserted?

Tahnks

To change the directory, as well as make the names of the devices persistent, you would have to create a file in /etc/udev/rules.d. According to documentation from SuSE on udev rules, that file should be called 10-local.rules.

The script to control the cd should be written by YaST. The file is called 20-cdrom.rules and is also located in /etc/udev/rules.d.

Writing the rules requires knowledge of how SuSE implements udev. Google on the search words suse and udev. You should turn up enough discussion on the topic to do the necessary edits.

Hello,

thanks a lot! I have never heared about udev before! Is this only a Suse feature or is it also used by other distributions?

Well my understanding is udev replaced hotplug for Suse. Hotplug was in Suse 9.3 and prior. Just a different version of hardware detections.

I have no clue... I am still trying to get subfs to work all the time for both cdrom and memory stick. The documentation on the website says make sure your kernel has subfs support, compile subfs, and add a entry in the fstab for the devices. Every time I eject a cdrom and put another cd in it wont mount automatically. I still need some insight on how to fix this problem..

Hello,

can you mount the cdrom manually? Try as root mount /dev/cdrom e.g.

Perhaps there is a wrong entry in the rules. On my side I have had a problem when I connected my cdrom on an other IDE bus.

/etc/udev/rules.d/55-cdrom.rules

Here it look like this:

SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:06.0-ide-1:0", SYSFS{removable}=="1", SYMLINK+="dvd dvdram cdrom cdrecorder"
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:06.0-ide-0:0", SYSFS{removable}=="1", SYMLINK+="dvd dvdram cdrom cdrecorder"
