Linksys router/packages/quicker boot on laptop

Alright, I have three questions....

1. I'm using SuSe Professional 9.2 on my laptop and all is working pretty good, considering that I did not have to do any configurating, such as wireless, mounting ntfs/fat partitions; used to use Fedora. However, I can use my schools wireless connection, which is awesome...but I also have wireless at home which is encrypted. How can I set it up so it recognizes if its my schools network (unencrypted) or home which is. How I have to make another eth? If so, where is the configuration located in Suse since things are awfully different. I'm also having problems with I try to use ethernet to connect at home. The connection is just not detected at all, I did not try wireless and I think it might not work either besides that its encrypted but I think there is something to do with the router. I have the Linksys WRT54GS, do I need drives for it or something?

2. Is there a good ftp where I can download update, the one's that the update agent has are very slow or do not work at all or require identification and I found that it does not have the newest things out there. Is there a program similar to yum under Fedora because I do not wish to carry cds around to install things.

3. Can I limit some things that start up during boot and what are they. Its taking a while and its my laptop so I don't think I need everything. What things could I disable without messing something up?

Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know if this tool is included in SuSE, but it should be, since it is part of the kdenetwork3 package but there is a tool called Kwifimanager in KDE in which you can edit and activate a configuration file to use encryption (I think only WEP is supported) I used this on my Slack-Current laptop along with an ndiswrapped driver (damned Atheros 802.11a/b/g built-in chips) and it works fine, the only thing is it doesn't know how to grab an IP address from the DHCP Server so I have to open a console and run:
dhcpcd wlan0
every time I connect, only slightly annoying, you might want to investigate this.

Also the Chicago, Illinois mirror (ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov) on YaST works great, no passwords and it is a complete mirror of ftp.suse.com. YaST is very similar to yum or other versions of RHN, SuSE doesn't offer bleeding-edege updates but rather includes updates that fix bugs and security issues. if you want bleeding-edge search around for APT and APT suppositories for SuSE
