Kernel Source

For the installation of the nVidia nForce drivers I need the kernel source.
Can't find it with YaST, so I went looking for it on the SuSE ftp and it was there. So I downloaded the source, and pressed "Install Package with YaST". Unfortunately the YaST GUI immediatly closes when started... The command "rpm -Uhv <kernelsource>.rpm --kernel-source-path=/lib/modules/<kernel#>/source" worked, but it still isn't there (still error with nvidia installer)

can't you just get the source from kernel.org?

--get the full source, put it in a directory like /usr/src/kernel-2.6.8.1

the link 'linux' to it -- ln -s kernel-2.6.8.1 linux
^ must be run from /usr/src as working directory

2.6.5-7.108 is what YaST Online Update installed for me... I am currently using it.

Edit: So I should just download the most recent stable kernel source (2.6.8.1), no matter what kernel I am currently using?

that's really up to you, my preference is to ignore what my distro-du-jour provides and compile my own

Stick with the kernel you installed for the kernel-source.

Guest4Linux:~> rpm -qa |grep kernel
kernel-default-2.6.5-7.108
kernel-docs-2.6.5-7.108
kernel-source-2.6.5-7.108

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/upd...7.108.i586.rpm
