Hello,
I am trying to install Suse 9.2 x86_64 (amd64) edition on my computer. I have a MSI Neo FIS2R M/B and 2 160 GB HDD's. Those 2 HDD's are put in a RAID 0 configuration with the onboard VT8237 SATA RAID controller, giving about 320 MB of striped storage
On this RAID disk I have a Windows partition and now I want to install suse 9.2 amd64 next to it on some free space.
The installation gives me the following error:
Warning: This system has at least one harddisk with a RAID configuration presented by the BIOS as RAID that is in fact a software RAID.
The messages continues specifying the affected drives (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb) and suggest using linux software RAID. I do not think that is a good idea because I will have to give up on my carefully crafted WinXP setup.
The message also warns me that if I continue I wil corrupt the complete RAID set. I also states support for this in the 2.6 is gone.
I know by googling around that the VT8237 SATA RAID controller is in fact a (rather cheap) software controlled RAID solution, so you need a driver.
ViaTech states there is a amd64 driver. Knowing Suse a bit, they must have put it in 9.2.
Does anyone here has had similar problems? Has anyone succeeded somehow?
Thanks for any hints.
