Grub corruption by 9.2

I just "upgraded" my 9.1 install to 9.2... I was dual booting xp and 9.1 suse with no problems whatever. The 9.2 "upgrade" went fine and it came up with everything working.

Then i made the mistake of using the bootloader editor in yast. I changed the delay time of 8 seconds to 10 seconds....zap, it clobbered the boot loader .... all i get now when it boots is:

GRUB _

The _ is a flashing curser that doesn't let you do anything.. No problem you say, just use the install disk and write a new boot.... Doesn't work... I used the 9.2 install disk and 10 different times wrote a new boot... none worked...

I even use the 9.1 install a few times and got the same results. By doing a format and install of 9.1 I get my boot loader back, but the second 9.2 installs a new loader out it goes again...

In total disgust I have gone back to a 9.1 install... Does anyone know how to fix this problem with 9.2 ? And it is a problem with 9.2, there is nothing wrong with my system. I also tried to install 9.2 on a P4 system and a Compaq laptop and 9.2 froze up on both systems, yet 9.1 installs and runs fine on both. Great work Novell, SuSE 8.1, 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, all worked right out of the box for me, but your first shot at it with 9.2 comes out craps....

b4 you die of shame, heh heh I recommend you learn how to use partimage to save the images of your 9.1 and each image contains a image of the mbr as a bonus.....its saved my bacon.

2) as I don't have suse can't help you but have a look at the suse site to see if there is a bug

3) if not, when you try re-install of 9.2 see if you can SKIP the bootloader section, it will mean grub is in mbr but will no longer link to stage2 files for 9.2 OR
while in INSTALL mode see if pressing alt AND F2 etc to open another terminal allows you get to console mode and login into root (you can do this with slackware) then issue grub commands to reembed if you can not skip and see what errors you get then restore your 9.1 images files.

4) it may be there is some broken package and your 9.2 has either zero byte stage1.5 or stage2 files etc a bit of troubleshooting for you unfortunately.

5) I assume you are aware of the suse issues as reported here
