Format the usb disk under suse


hi i want to format my usb disk as ext2 but i couldnt be able to find the command does anyone know how may i format my usb disk under suse

Try mkfs.vfat /dev/sda1 as root, with the stick unmounted.

Edit: oops, you want ext2. Un that case use mkfs.ext2, but I'd reccommend using ext3 instead.

format usb

the easiest and best way to format usb
open console and
sudo su enter
password
fdisk -l enter
this gives the list of partitions and drives
mkfs.vfat /dev/sd?? enter format
sync enter finish

There are two commands what will create an ext2 filesystem:
Code:
1: mke2fs -t ext2
2: mkfs.ext2
Either way will most likely require superuser permission, e.g. using sudo or logged in as root.

These commands are the same on openSUSE as probably all Linux distros.
