Welcome to LQ.

The spec says it has 750GB/5,400rpm 1st and 2nd HDD. I think it is not a solid state drive.

Well any way that doesn't matter at all Slackware can be installed either so long as you backup and then partition the (Windows 10) drive first thereafter you may use the remaining space of 1st disk. You can also use the entire 2nd disk for the slackware assuming it is still empty.

Your laptop is new, there MIGHT be obstacles imposed by Secure Boot in installing non-microsoft system. However I have read (plenty of sources out there) that Windows 7 which is the current pre-installed M$ is easy to dual boot with Linux, your laptop has Windows 7, you should have no problem with UEFI booting, there is a simple work around like this one.

Meantime you first get familiar with Slackware installation here, or download a good tutorial for that purpose here.

If you have problems come back.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Your drives should come up as:

/dev/sda
/dev/sdb

When you install, tell the installer setup program to use /dev/sdb and however you setup your partitions for Linux.

As far as Secure Boot, all you need to do is disable Secure Boot and everything will continue to work as-is.

I also recommend you do NOT use LILO/eLILO, but use Grub with the bootloader installed to the EFI partition on /dev/sdb. This way Windows and Slackware can coexist without stepping on each other, and you can use the BIOS Boot Selection feature to select which device you wish to boot into.

Hello,

I recently installed Slackware on a laptop with UEFI and dual booting Windows 10.

First you have to identify your disks (sda or sdb), then choose where you wish to install the Slackware. It would be easier to install on the empty second disk. But if you fancy it, you could as well shrink the Windows partition and install Slackware on a partition alongside on the first disk itself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJiakVgAtn4 (Windows partitioning tutorial)

Once you have your free space on your desired hard disk, it's easy. First you turn off Secure Boot and Windows Fastboot, boot into the Slackware CD/DVD and follow the guides if there is any problem:

http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:sla..._uefi_hardware
http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:sla...based_hardware (if you wish)
http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:sec...ng_secure_boot
http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:slackware_admin:start

All the best.
