Prepping for first install Slackware 13.37 : A few prieiminary questions
Hello all! This is my first post here at this forum. I have been reading up on Slackware and interested on installing it on my desktop. I have watched some tutorials and been reading the SlackBook. I have never done an install like this but i feel this learning this distro will teach me the most about linux. I want to use this thread to document my progress and post questions during this install. My first question is there anything special i will have to do with my hardware?

Yes I havn't had any problems with my internet when installing other distros. What i have not been able to learn is getting my sound going, although I have managed to get it going using the F.I.I.K method i do not think that method will work with slackware. It looks like i have I have 2 multimedia audio controllers, Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 12) and Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 07).
what will i need to know when I am trying to get the sound going in slackware?
That looks like you have the onboard sound and a additional Soundblaster card in your system. If you use only one of them I would prefer the Soundblaster and just diable the onboard soundcard in the systems BIOS.
ok so i spent all day reading the intall instructions and gave the install a go last night and ran into some unknown variables. I've got it all installed somewhat and I rebooted and I am the welcome to Linux 2.6.37.6~smp (tty1)

No, you don't miss that part, it simply isn't there. It is up to you to create the user after installation.
