Since a thunderstorm yesterday, my network is not working (it claims to be up, but it isn't, after /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2. netstat -a shows eth0 and wlan0 as appearing to be up. I can't even ping the router.
I remember there being single mode for booting in to do physical system diagnostics, but not how to get there if that's even what I need to do. I'm using my tablet right now. Help please....
Using your tablet would mean the router is functional.
Is your system a laptop or desktop?
Is your system using wired or wireless?
If wired does the output of the ethtool for eth0 show a link at the correct speed?
If wired are the link lights illuminated at both ends?
I assume both devices show via lspci or lsusb?
Does the output of dmesg show any errors pertaining to either device?
If wireless can it detect the router's ssid?
Sorry, all that 'stuff' you went thru the effort of typing in, isn't useful. Just a couple of key basic info is needed.
Try powering-off both the PC (& router).
(IF the wifi actuallly has a [link layer 2 vs. IP layer 3] connection 'UP' with the SSID,
my next guess is that [IDK why] the router refuses to give a DHCP to the PC!)
No help... Is there a way in Slackware to do a hardware diagnosis for the network interfaces? More and more I'm thinking that the lightning, via mutual induction, damaged them. I want to either prove or, preferably, rule that out.
