Can't ping or access websites while 'connected'

Hi! I have read the similar threads but none of them has helped me to solve my problem.

I have just installed Slackware 64-15.0 to my Fujisu Lifebook (Intel-i7) laptop. It was installed from a Slackware Live iso for Slasckware64-15.0 due to to impossibility of running the installer from the original Slackware64-15.0 on this machine - as discussed at https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...rchid=12472562.

I have Slackware64-15.0 running fine on 3 other machines and the USB sticks with the Slackware64-15.0 isos whose installers can't run on the i7 machine run well on the other machines, which include a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop (Imtel-i5).

I am mentioning this because I feel that the subject of this thread is strange in a similar way.

I opted for NetworkManager under installation. and I think - but I am not sure anymore - that I also opted for a firewall - for the first time in my life.

Upon first boot after installation I ran 'nmtui' and tried to configure my wi-fi. This was probably a mistake as I did not make sure first that the wired connection was working.

I am no expert and made several mistakes in trying to configure the network, but I finally got the machine informing that it was connected and even with which speed.

But I could not open any page on firefox, nor could I ping 8.8.8.8 or other sites.

So I stopped NetworkManagerm, chmod it '-x', configured /etc/rc.d/rc/inet1.conf (see enclosed file) and ran:
Code:
 # /etc/rc.d/rc/inet1 start
I could ping 127.0.0.0 and 192.168.0.97 (the IP asigned to eth0 by /etc/rc.d/rc/inet1.conf), but not for instance '8.8.8.8' or 'linuxmint.com', and I could not access anything on Firefox.

I tried it again with '/etc/rc.d/rc/inet1.conf', after a new boot, but nothing changed.

Here is what info I have gathered so far, while running under '/etc/rc.d/rc/inet1.conf' :

I have not found anything different from any of my other Slacware64-15.0 installations. All my machines are multiboots, the ones on my 2 Fujitus Lifebooks have both several Linux distros on an external disk, and Windows - which I use extremely seldom onthe internal disk - I don-t want to mix my Linuxes with Windows.

All my Linuxes, including the other ones in this Fujitsu Lifebook i7 can access the internet.

Wonder whether I can provide more info that will help solving this.

If I missed it, I apologize, but have you tested with a wired connection?

No need to apologize, I was not clear enough. I did try both under NetworkManager and under 'rc.inet1'. But I think I made a mistake the Slackware documentation warns against, namely trying to connect to wi-fi before securing a wired connection. I was lucky to have other machines connected to the internet, but I still could not update the installation on the target machine.

Try stoppiung or disabling your firewall and a reboot 'sudo /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall stop' or 'sudo chmod -x /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall'

If you want to reconfigure the firewall it is done by running 'sudo myfwconf'

Thanks ethelack!
I have a feeling you have solved this¸but I can't verify it now, will return ASAP, probably in a couple days.
