XF86Config Woes

I just installed Slack 9.1 and have gone through setup with no real hitches. Now I need to configure X, which is turning out to be more difficult than I thought.

I've tried several different commands when logged in as root, including Xconfigurator, XF86Setup, xconf, and xconfig, and none of them are registering.

What should I be entering to begin X setup?

(Nice thing about having a new distro is that you don't have to search very far back into the help fora.)

Thanks. I'll try that, though not tonight. (Every site says something different, figured it might vary slightly between distros.)

Yes, the joys of command-line interfaces.... power if you know the command you want, frustration if you don't.

If you are not 100% sure what your hardware is, you can use "xfree86setup" which is a menu driven frontend similar to the Slackware installer. It tells the X server to look at the video card and setup the best initial configuration file it can make based on the information it gathers.
