Where's my mouse wheel? Slackware 10

I think this may have been talked about before but I never been able to get a satisfactory solution. I'm using a newly installed Slackware 10, I have a Micro$oft cordless mouse which works really well except I have no mouse wheel. The same can be said for Slack 9.1.....no wheel with that version either.

It's not a great travesty to not have working but I don't understand why the other Distros I have used (Mandrake 10, Fedora Core 1 and 2 along with a string of others) have never had this problem. I know I'm not the only one with the issue as I have read similar posts from other "frustrated" users.

The mouse send/receive is plugged into the PS2 port on my PC (as it never works with Slack when connected to the USB port).

Cheers

The incorrect mouse drivers are being used... I have a logitech cordless, but try putting this info into your xorg.conf.

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"

Should do the trick (The protocol part should be different, and the ZAxisMapping as well). Cheers m8.

edit your xf86config file to read something like this:

Section "InputDevice"

# Identifier and driver

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

That last line is the important one you may have to add.

Slack 10 uses Xorg, so the file to edit is /etc/X11/xorg.conf
