No worries, I didn't take it as an attack. I already said, Conky is definitely an awesome tool. The omly thing that bugs me is that when I have 4 windows open, I gotta keep moving 1-2 windows around just to read Conky. It's not suitable for small displays. If I had a monitor bigger than 24 inhes, things would obviously be different. Gkrellm remains a genius option for small laptops. You said it, tastes can vary. Thank goodness... imagine if we all fell in love with the same woman?
You can move Conky around as a normal window, you can specify that in the config file. And you can customize Conky to whatever you want, I am pretty sure you can adapt it for small resolutions.

(Emphasis mine)
I have no issues with taste and preference but I don't understand why you insist there is anything inherently problematic with conky on smaller screens. Anyone can easily scale conky to the same exact size as any GKrellM display and an industrious LUA coder could quite literally duplicate any GKrellM appearance. What is it that causes you to think there is some difference that makes conky unsuitable for smaller screens?
Here is one of my desktops on the T61P Thinkpad with 15.4 inch display. I'd be interested in how readable it is on your smaller screen. Please note too that, as has been mentioned, the overall size as well as font size, type and color are all configurable/adjustable, and I'm pretty sure it is also possible to always show it on top of other windows so nothing needs to be moved around so it is still visible.
If the small size required by LQN (< 300KB) doesn't display well I'll provide a direct link.
As you get older, your eyes often deteriorate as well. To cut a long story short, I'm sticking with Gkrellm. If the time comes when I require a larger monitor, I'll reconsider using Conky. Until then, I'll keep it as it is. No offense, but Conky is not suitable for me.

Once You've tried my conky.conf come and tell me of that same woman fresh from the start?
I still use gkrellm for things tho.

Take a look at the last picture I posted, the resolution is 1920x1080 pixels. I can hardly make out the details. I've done a lot of searching online, and in terms of style, all the Conkys look the same. There's nothing that's as wide as Gkrellm.

You have to increase the font size in the Conky config file if the font is too small for you. I could probably create a Conky that looks identical to Gkrellm. You would not tell the difference.

I'd be super excited if there was a conky.conf that had the same look as Gkrellm.

Can we love few same women instead?
I'm impressed by your way with words. I read somewhere that having this kind of linguistic ability indicates a special sensitivity to the nuances of language.
Distribution: Slackware64 15.0 (started with 13.37). Testing -current in a spare partition.

Try a bigger font. For me the line "xftfont Droid Sans Mono:bold:size=10" in 1680x1050 is OK, you could try 14 or 16, as Bindestreck said.

If the image doesn't show as Full Screen maybe "Ctrl-+" a time or three. Font size, style, and color are changeable and so are window length and width.
I'm not trying to convince you conky is better, just exploring what it can and cannot do.

I adjusted it according to my eyes. But then it becomes way too big for me. I think one should change the style so it doesn't look too wide, especially for smaller laptops like the one I use. Not everyone wants an airplane cockpit on their desktop.
