And as you correctly say in your earlier post, "hot off the press" in English. I get it now.

"frisch gebacken": I like the idea of a "freshly baked" kernel - sounds tasty!

Now that Pat has put 5.18.2 in testing I compared his .config with mine and noticed probably a dozen and a half changes not included in the one I have been using. I incorporated those but let the changes made to my .config by upgrading to GCC-12.1 in the .config. Build went fine and it appears to be rock solid as well.

FWIW:
Tried to build the new 5.19-rc1 kernel with gcc-12.1.0, but it was spitting errors left and right, so I finally stopped the process.
Removed gcc-12.1.0, installed gcc-11.3.0 and rebooted.
This time the build was successfully. Not a single error.
I didn't expect the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-470.129.06.run driver to build and it did not.
OTOH, I was pleasantly surprised to see VirtualBox-6.1.35-151573-Linux_amd64 build and run as it should.
Using the nouveau driver for now and so far, so good.

BTW. it took about 10 minutes longer to build this kernel than any other kernel I've built on the same box.
