Exclamation System freezes during boot with USB device plugged in.

I recently switched to Slackware from RedHat, but I'm still a newbie to linux in general. So anyway, with the help of another forum, I got my USB mouse working. The problem is that if I boot the computer with the mouse plugged in, it freezes every time. Any idea what may be causing this? I can post output of any command if you want.

Also, plugging in the mouse after I boot only works sometimes (never freezes that way though). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem and could not find a fix. I finally decided to delete Slack 9.1 and install Slack 9.0 which does not cause hang up at boot.

If you want, you can read about my previous posts by searching my posts.

Good Luck

How Old is the device your plugging in and have you recompiled your kernel?

It may be that hotplug is trying to use USB 2.0 .. so older usb devices do not like this ... like my logitech wingman.

The device is less than a year old. It is USB 1.0, and so is my computer. My computer has 1 USB port, but the boot-up sequence says it finds 2 USB ports on the 1 hub.

I really don't know how to recompile the kernel...
