Question Steam in 6.6.7

Hi, updated to 6.6.7 and my steam stopped working. It's the alien version.
Any workarounds?

After the update I even did slackpkg install slackware64 to check for missing packages, but the system seems OK.

Code:

steam.sh[7727]: STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically

I haven't used Steam in several days so just now I launched Steam. No issues at all on starting Steam. Doing updates to games right now, all is well.

Operating System: Slackware64-current
Kernel Version: 6.6.7 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 4 × AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840 Processor
Memory: 7.8 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: M68MT-S2

Note: Alien Bob's package is basically a steam launcher program that installs Steam. Once that is done, it all Steam and no longer Alien.

Yeah all was fine here, just after the update something changed.
Inxi has no problems either.
No idea what to do. Tried reinstall, but still getting the same error.
Could be that my install is having some problems?

I fixed it by manually creating a compat32 version of mesa 23.3.0 from my local slackware-current (32bit that is) mirror with convertpkg-compat32 (full command: convertpkg-compat32 -i mesa*t?z -d ~/tmp/) and upgrading to that so both the 32 and 64bit packages now have the same version again:

# ls /var/log/packages/mesa-*
/var/log/packages/mesa-23.3.0-x86_64-1 /var/log/packages/mesa-compat32-23.3.0-x86_64-1compat32

A reinstall was going to be my next suggestion. When you did this, did you remove the '~/.steam' directory before running steam? (Hopefully backed it up first.)

I will assume you have multilib installed.

All of my downloads are done so I tested with couple of games. Works normally.

You hardware does not match mine. What inxi command did you use to get what you posted?

inxi -Fxx

I suppose it might be the version problem in the mesa drivers 32/64?

I had to downgrade my 64bit mesa package to match the multilib version for steam to work a few weeks ago.

in my case Steam work what does not work are 32 bit games or wine 32 bit and the 32 bit vkcube binary.

what happen if you launch this /usr/bin/32/vkcube?
can you share your multilib packages?

ls/var/log/packages | grep mesa
ls/var/log/packages | grep vulkan
ls/var/log/packages | grep llvm
?

vkEnumerateInstanceExtensionProperties failed to find the VK_KHR_surface extension.

Do you have a compatible Vulkan installable client driver (ICD) installed?
Please look at the Getting Started guide for additional information.

I have
[inst] multilib : mesa-compat32-23.2.1-x86_64-1compat32
[inst] slackware64 : mesa-23.3.1-x86_64-1

vulkan-sdk-1.3.268.0 and
vulkan-sdk.compat32-1.3.250.0

llvm-17.0.6
llvm-compat32-17.0.5

so the same version mismatch again.
How do I downgrade?

ah, I see I don't
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...de-4175623494/

So I will need to wait till Alien catches up on the multilib then... and start to backup old packages for myself from now on.

that mean your 32 bit vulkan driver is broken, same problem as i have.
i don't think having the same version will solve the problem. i have same version of mesa 23.3.1 and the 32 bit vulkan driver is still broken.

I just updated my laptop (Intel GPU) to the latest Slackware64-current with multilib as offered by Alien Bob. I run "/usr/bin/32/vkcube" and I get a spinning cube in a separate window. No errors or warnings regarding Vulkan.
