startx fails after slackware 8.1 install

Hello,

I'm a newbie at linux, after I installed Slackware 8.1, it fails to startx.

I don't remember the error in detail, looks like some kind of authority with the display.

Can anyone help me?
I have been trying to learn linux by installing gentoo and slack as a duel boot system along with XP.

Regards,

Frank

You have to configure x at first.
Have a look at http://slackware.com/book/index.php?source=c1364.html

No, was thought the install did that for me, like redhat or mandrake.

Thanks

Well, i did a search with google and found http://www.nmt.edu/ftp/linux/slackwa...book/slakbook/

You could download the book using 'wget -m -np url' i think.

Running xfree86setup at the command line might help you to at least be able to start the X server and get to a viewable screen. its a little less painless than xf86config, but i still had to use that after to get my resolutions straightened out. hope that hels ya out at least a little bit
