snmpd installed, see file, but get error file not found


hello.
i am using slack 9.0 with kernel 2.4.22
i d/l snmpt from:
sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/admin/
put it in / dir and did tar xzvf ....
i can see the file /sbin/snmpd there
but when i run /sbin/snmpd
i get file not found
how can that be?
can someone help me with snmpd, couse i need it for log making php programs like mrtg
