Slackware64 13.1: Odd values in /usr/lib64/tclConfig.sh

While trying to compile itcl, one of the error messages caused me to look inside /usr/lib64/tclConfig.sh. I found many paths that were in /tmp, such as...

Code:
# String to pass to linker to pick up the Tcl library from its
# build directory.
TCL_BUILD_LIB_SPEC='-L/tmp/tcl8.5.8/unix -ltcl8.5'
Code:
# Location of the top-level source directory from which Tcl was built.
# This is the directory that contains a README file as well as
# subdirectories such as generic, unix, etc. If Tcl was compiled in a
# different place than the directory containing the source files, this
# points to the location of the sources, not the location where Tcl was
# compiled.
TCL_SRC_DIR='/tmp/tcl8.5.8'
Code:
# String to pass to linker to pick up the Tcl stub library from its
# build directory.
TCL_BUILD_STUB_LIB_SPEC='-L/tmp/tcl8.5.8/unix -ltclstub8.5'
Code:
# Path to the Tcl stub library in the build directory.
TCL_BUILD_STUB_LIB_PATH='/tmp/tcl8.5.8/unix/libtclstub8.5.a'
Now that's probably where tcl was built, but it's pretty useless information to add to tclConfig.sh, IMO.

(You can argue that itcl should not be looking in any of those places in the first place.)

Yeah, it looks like tcl config is full of crap.

Can we cut to the error message with itcl, or have you sorted that?

*shrugs* Well, it falls back to looking into the install directory.

Given a command line of...

Code:
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-L/lib64,-L/usr/lib64" CFLAGS="-O2 -fPIC -m64" ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-64bit --libdir=/usr/lib64
(Brought to you via the incredible src2pkg package), I eventually get this...
Code:
checking for Tcl public headers... /usr/include
checking for Tcl private include files... configure: error: Cannot find private header tclInt.h in /tmp/tcl8.5.8
Now, after having looked into the configure script for that package, there's no way to tell it to look into /usr/include/tcl-private (well, as far as I could figure out).

I was really trying to run Password Gorilla, but [incr tcl] was required.

What about a symlink?

Mind you, I seem to remember from my LFS days that tcl always needed the source around when you were adding bits. It looks like you're going to end up recompiling

Extract tcl8.5.8-src.tar.xz to /tmp. (That file is on your install disk at source/tcl/tcl.) Then try to build your itcl package again.
