Question Slackware 15 - Plasma has long delay when logging out/re-starting

I'll preface this by saying I primarily use Xfce, being that 15 is fresh, I've been using Plasma with this new install.

One major annoyance I have come across is when I select Leave > Logout or Re-start, it can take literally 20+ seconds before it will do either selection.

I've seen where this has been an issue in the recent past for systemd systems.

What should I be looking for to get to the root cause?

I tested using Xfce and when logging out/re-starting, it is immediate.

Thanks!

Are you using the traditional X Session or Wayland. I have observed similar behavior with Plasma while logging out of an X Session from Plasma, but not Wayland.

I still sometimes had such KDE slowness problems (another, for example, if you link /tmp /home/user/tmp and/or /home/user/.tmp, exclude them from KDE's indexing) including this logout/poweroff/reboot slowness problem. Usually I just make sure my settings are saved, then press <CTRL><ALT><BKSP>, 1sec exit of X/KDE.

What did you want to insinuate here?

Of course that an eventual issue would most likely would be reported in "systemd systems" , because almost everybody uses systemd.

From what I know, today we are the single major Linux distribution which does not use systemd.

That's why I think that would be fantastic if we will stop seeing Mr. Poettering's shadow at every street corner, like LC said somewhere.

No, the systemd didn't eat your dog, probably it's just a graphics issue.

You can try to see if the behavior changes without graphics effects, aka the "compositor" enabled at startup.

I did a clean install of Slackware64-current on Wednesday, February 22nd. Yesterday I modified my slackpkg mirror to point to my 15.0 mirror. I'm using KDE-plasma.
I'm seeing a slight delay when I log out of plasma, but, not 20 seconds. I'm using X at run level 3.

It seems like it varies - when I was messing with --Current I still noticed something similar, only it was around 5-10 sec until I was finally dropped to CLI when logging out of Plasma (X-Session), but again no delays from Wayland. I guess something is just weird with Plasma and X11, and maybe should be asked towards the Plasma devs then, I don't know; but overall yes there just seems to be a longer than usual delay when exiting out of an X11 Plasma session; maybe something in /var/log or xorg's log might give a clue as to what might be the hangup.

This sounds similar to something I saw when I posted to the following thread:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...4/#post6299214

I was using runlevel 4 with sddm and was getting long logouts and occasional crashes. I tried the updates to /etc/pam.d/postlogin that was suggested. My crashes seemed to have stopped, but my log outs from KDE Plasma (X11) do still seem a bit long as if there were something hanging preventing a clean exit.

Nothing much to offer other than that I'm afraid.

Its something, but I have noticed the same type of delay when at default runlevel 3. Something about Plasma exiting X11 seems to hang up somewhere, but nothing really in the xorg logs that I can find as to why, other than - it just does seem to hang.

I don't use runlevel 3 often so I can't recall if this is the usual message when X11 shuts down:
Code:
Current version of pixman: 0.40.0
        Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.
Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,
(++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Fri Feb  4 12:34:54 2022
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
(==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"
Did the X11 server die?The X11 connection broke (error 1). Did the X11 server die?(II) Server terminated successfully
(0). Closing log file.
Maybe it's me, but that seems a little ugly.

And after exiting fluxbox (1st example was plasma):

Code:
waiting for X server to shut down (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

I am not an expert, but I am guessing that perhaps when Plasma logs out from a X11 session, perhaps it does not do it cleanly? Maybe it is doing it abruptly, and so the delay could be the system still thinking the session is still in progress or something? I don't know - thats all I have as a best guess.
