OK, wipe and re-install this weekend then I suppose. Then slackbuild party.

Though the few times system has been upgraded, I've kept the old disc as backup and inserted a new install disc...

Inpending... that doesn't sound good...

Joking :) This happens a lot and to me it makes sense since a lot of things these days tend to need libs not in the older versions.

14.0 was released in 2012, that is a bit over 11 years, it even beats RHEL old version support. Good support run!

Time passed so fast

This is the plan. A 240Gb SSD is on order. Much cheaper than the 100Gb was in 2018.

(I also sync the ~/home drive to an external USB hard drive each day - so not a full incremental backup. Might look at incremental backups when new system is installed).

It sounds like a cautious attempt, to tell 15.0 becomes old stable as well. :p

$lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)

my cpu/gpu is not compatible with the new kernels (memory conflict displayed in dmesg)

So I thank Pat and others for maintaining Slackware64 14.2 for so long.

Already, I have run into a piece of software which complains about the 2.33 version of glibc in Slackware 15.0... When I finish some more pressing chores, then I have to decide whether to wait for v15.1 or to do some compiling.

Where exactly did you get this information? I can find nothing about EOL for 14.2 anywhere on Slackware's website or Security Announcements. What is the source of this statement above, please?

Petri Kaukasoina 01-09-2024 10:16 AM

In ChangeLog.txt https://slackware.osuosl.org/slackwa.../ChangeLog.txt

First Mon Oct 9 18:10:01 UTC 2023 and now again Wed Jan 3 20:25:45 UTC 2024.

GazL 01-09-2024 10:44 AM

Well, hopefully that should have free'd up a good chunk of Pat's time.
