Faulty disc? I've installed Slackware 15.0 many times on physical and virtual machines and have not seen the behaviour you describe.

I've had the same experience, that is, I've installed Slackware64-15.0 many times without error. Maybe a bad download or bad install DVD?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop where the TSC clocksource provokes a strange boot stalling of around 5 minutes.

That's it, it just stay 5 minutes in the early boot stage, no matter if it's Slackware 15.0 or -current - without new messages, no errors, nothing. Then it continues to boot as usual and everything works fine.

The solution which I've found is to switch to HPET as clocksource, by adding in the kernel command line:
Code:
clocksource=hpet
Maybe this could help.

If anything, this is a proof that before claiming "can't get past" you should wait a certain amount of time.

OK - I redownloaded the DVD, burnt to two disks, the problem remains.

It is possible to see if a download is OK by checking the md5sum of the downloaded iso file. Even better is to use gpg together with the public GPG-KEY of Slackware to verify that the contents has been unmodified since produced at Slackware.

Code:
md5sum -c slackware-15.0-install-dvd.iso.md5
slackware-15.0-install-dvd.iso: OK

gpg --verify slackware-15.0-install-dvd.iso.asc
gpg: assuming signed data in `slackware-15.0-install-dvd.iso'
gpg: Signature made Thu Feb 3 20:51:34 2022 CET using DSA key ID 40102233
gpg: Good signature from "Slackware Linux Project <security@slackware.com>"
But again, to be able to run the gpg command you will first need to install the public GPG-KEY from Slackware from a trusted source in your gpg keyring.

regards Henrik

01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 2350/2400 Series]
Its a very old system, that I have been havong trouble with increasingly over the past year or teo with freezes; seems to be ok for the time being with a judicious tap or more with a rubber mallet on the graphics card.

I have upgraded the 14.2 to 15.0, but the udev problem is not resolved not that it matters to much for me now.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

All the best

Interesting - Asking Google about the lspci output found this Arch thread where replacing the graphics card was the solution. Gotta love that AMD stuff.
