recompling the bareacpi.i kernel

Does anyone know what exactly is special about this kernel? Its the only one of the setup disk that makes my laptop work correctly. (obviously becuase ACPI is messing up my irq routing or something. Stupid compaq) Anyways, I need/want to recompile the kernel for my wireless card and a few other things. What is special about this kernel? Does it just have the ACPI/power management function deselected? Or is there something more? Thanks for the help!

Quite the opposite should be the case ... it should
ENABLE ACPI on the box.

Well - whoever said that obviously had no clue

Ok, so maybe my laptop needed ACPI. It has never worked correctly before. When i installed BSD i had the same problems. I was told to try booting without ACPI and it worked. OH well.
