Problems with Mixxx DJ software and updates

I'm running Slackware 15 in a VM to get my head around it. One issue I have is with Mixxx DJ software: I install it using sbopkg and everything is great. However, when I run my next slackpkg upgrade-all, it prompts me to update 18 different packages (including Mixxx) and it stops working due to dependencies not being found (libprotobuf being the first one it complains about). So, I run slackpkg remove mixxx, and reinstall it with sbopkg. Which works great, but brings me back to my original issue with slackpkg upgrade-all prompting me to upgrade (and break) it.

I'm clearly doing something wrong... Please tell me what! Thanks.

it seems you have setup slackpkg+ with some third party repository (mixxx is not present in any official repository) that conflicts with whatever you build via sbopkg.

IMHO there are at least three possible solutions:
- don't use slackpkg+ with third party repositories;
- don't use the scripts from SlackBuilds.org;
- use both but blacklist the overlapping packages and libraries (it takes lot of care and experience and it will need lot of manual maintenance).

I just ran

sqg -p mixxx

and then loaded and processed the queue using sbopkg. Mixxx is available in Alienbob's repo (that's the one that breaks the sbopkg installation). Slackpkg+ is setup to use:

REPOPLUS=( slackpkgplus alienbob restricted)

Sbopkg is setup:

REPO_BRANCH=${REPO_BRANCH:-15.0}

and

Code:

REPO_NAME=${REPO_NAME:-SBo}

Mixxx is also in Slackbuilds for 15.0.
I guess my problem is that there is a conflict between sbopkg (which works), alianbob (which I haven't managed to get working) and slackbbuilds (which I haven't tried).

As I mentioned above, I'm just trying to get my head wrapped around this. One thing I will say for Slackware: It's amazingly fast!

I've removed alienbob and restricted from slackpkg+. To be honest, I'm not even sure why I'm using it, only that I'm blindly following recommendations I found while googling "how to setup slackware". I'll stick with sbopkg because it is easy for me to understand, it's easy to use, and it seems to work.
