problem using dhcpcd or dhclient

Hi,

Today I installed slack11(with the 2.6 kernel) on my vaio VGN-SZ1M/B, I installed the ipw3945 driver, ifconfig says it's ok, iwconfig does too. The problem is when I run dhclient eth1, i get an error like :"eth1: not found".
Moreover, dhcpcd times out.
note that i modified /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf in order to enable dhcp support for eth1.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

You could try something like;
Code:
ifconfig eth1 up
iwlist eth1 scanning <-- does it see your essid
iwconfig eth1 essid "xxxxxxxxxx"
dhcpcd eth1

Do you use WEP or WPA
are you sure you installed the firmware etc.

I don't know looks like it should work. You can try manually if you know the numbers
something like;
Code:
ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.100 broadcast 192.168.0.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add default gw 192.168.0.1
but dhcp should work, Are you connecting through a router? DSL modem?

Are you absolutely SURE that you have run "ifconfig eth1 up" before running "dhcpcd eth1"? Your problem has all the hallmarks of an ethernet device which has not been brought up.

Your wireless is not actually associated (connected) to your router. So it's no surprise that dhcpcd/dhclient doesn't work.

While I have your attention, do you see those smileys in your post? You can get rid of them and make your posts easier to read if you surround system responses with [ code ] and [ /code ], without the embedded spaces, of course.

ok ok, iw was not associated while copying the text but theres a reason : it doesnt changes anything :
Code:
root@sam:~# iwconfig eth1
eth1 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"wifi" Nickname:"sam"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:14:85:83:D9:D9
          Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:15 dBm
          Retry limit:15 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=86/100 Signal level=-47 dBm Noise level=-48 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:84 Missed beacon:0

root@sam:~# route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
loopback * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
see ? I didn't put the output of dhclient , at that time it says always : eth1:not found
Now, i tried it :

Code:
root@sam:~# ifconfig eth1 192.168.0.2

root@sam:~# dhclient eth1
