Printer Suggestions

I'm in the market for a black/white Laser Printer to use with my desktop running Slackware (and to network to Windows from there).

I was looking at the "Suggested Printers" on http://www.linuxprinting.org

I'm thinking about the "HP LaserJet 1022", but I read that a couple people had problems setting it up using Linux.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance...

I have a Samsung ML-2010 B/W laser that works very nicely with linux, plus it ships with the linux drivers on a cdrom. The biggest selling point was that Slackware was listed on the outside of the box Also you might want to check the HCL.

If you stick with HP (a good choice, IMHO) be sure and look at the HPLIP driver and it's Supported Printers page. I've been using this driver with Slackware (I build a package for it) and it works as well as any I've seen. If you get one of the Multi-Function printers (I have a PSC-1610) you can print, scan and access the multi-card reader from within the HP Toolbox utility and FAXING is getting closer.

I use the Brother HL-1430 with the recommended driver. As an interesting detail, Brother has recently released a numberof drivers under the GPL, so it is actually free software.

Kyocera Fs1000

A little outdated Kyocera Fs-1000 works nicely with my current Slack.
