I am having problems accessing my vps xen shell using terminal. Basically the console text rendering is all over the place, this is a cut and paste example of what I see after logging in:

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the xen-shell (Steve Kemps)or my terminal. I know that xen-shell works very well with konsole (kde 4.5.5) but don't want to install kde on this machine just to fix this. The xfce terminal settings are default, $TERM is set to xterm. I installed lxterminal from slackbuilds test if it worked-it has the same issues. I am guessing that this is something to do with xterm. What do we think?

I tried changing term setting to rxvt, got a slightly different format of garbled characters. Now using konsole which is fine.
