While virt-manager is practical and "easy", I regret making it a habit, because starting qemu from the command line is way more powerful and flexible, and alot of the advanced directions online deal with that way of doing it.

And I would highly recommend installing some of the optional dependencies, spice, virglrenderer. Spice gives you a much nicer display, virgl is a 3d acceleration driver (available on Slackware guest) for those not planning to do GPU passthrough or use the simpler emulated gpu drivers.
