yet another radeon problem

ok

i run slack 9.0
on an amd machine with via KT400 chipset and kernel 2.4.22
my graphics card is the problamatic radeon 9000 pro.

i installed the lates fglrx modules... and configured my XF86Config-4 file (that was created thru fglrxconfig)

when the option OpenGLOverlay is set to on, the X server would not load up, and say it caught signal 8 and must abort.
whe OpenGLOverlay is set to off... the X server loads up, but fgl_glxgears won't start
and say that it couldnt get fbconfig....
games using opengl freeze
and dmesg contains the following line:

does someone has a suggestions?
[fglrx:firegl_unlock] *ERROR* process XXX using kernel context 0

any suggestions
