Odd Problem

Hello, My current distro is slackware 8.0 and usually after running a program with wine that requires sound (Latest CVS of winex) my sound will die, and there is no way to start it agian par a reboot. Also, after closing xmms or any sound application, it kills the sound also, but dosent't happen as often as wine.
Even if I kill every program, wine/xmms etc, sound will not come back and will just lock any program trying to use sound. Any suggestion's? I have my sound compiled into the kernel, not as module's,here is my sound card info:
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. AC97 Audio Controller (rev 80).
Im also using a MSI KT7 limited edition mobo. If anyone could help I would appriciate it. I hate losing uptime's due to the fact I can't listen to my mp3's/cd's.Thanks

You can't use two application at the same time which both need sound system . This is a shortcoming of linux sound architecture but you can use esddsp as a sound proxy like esddsp xmms foo.mp3 that way they wont lock /dev/dsp ...

Thanks sorta

Thank's for posting a reply so quickly. But, with just running one application that use's sound, it locks up afterwards.
Say I just freshly rebooted, and logged in, and opened up xmms and played a file, then I closed xmms. Thats when it locks up.It dosen't do it as often as programs in wine crash the sound, but it does do it. I checked my system and I have no hardware conflicts, and I am using the correct sound module's.
It only started doing this recently,im not sure why because I havent updated/installed new hardware.
Anyways thanks for your time!

but you may have X-Windows with the sound driver open as well. I've never heard of an error like this, although I've battled countless times with ornery sound cards in linux. I would try his fix and see what happens, if it doesn't work, come on back.
