Unhappy Lower fps due to xorg 6.9

Just upgraded to xorg 6.9. The bad news is that my glxgears now only shows about 700fps, while with the previous xorg average was 3000. How to understand that? Was previous version buggy or smth, if it wasn't why my performance has dropped down so much? Thanks for explanations.

xorg 6.9 could be not yet optimized enough, or it has higher requirements. Dunno which one.

glxgears is a very poor indicator of any performance increase/ decrease.

Were you using any proprietary drivers (e.g. nVidia or ATi) and if so, have you reinstalled these yet?

I am using nvidia driver which I had before upgrading, because xorg.conf wasn't changed. Should I reinstall it (nvidia)?

I found Xorg 6.9 to be FAR slower than 6.8.2 as well.
