lirc trouble

hi all,

i had a topseed remote control (1784:0008) working fine about 3 months ago. i reinstalled 13.37 and cannot get it to work again. the receiver gets registered fine:

Code:
[ 627.426023] usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
[ 627.625060] usb 5-1: config 1 interface 0 altsetting 0 endpoint 0x1 has an invalid bInterval 0, changing to 32
[ 627.625066] usb 5-1: config 1 interface 0 altsetting 0 endpoint 0x82 has an invalid bInterval 0, changing to 32
[ 627.659048] usb 5-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1784, idProduct=0008
[ 627.659051] usb 5-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 627.659053] usb 5-1: Product: eHome Infrared Transceiver
[ 627.659055] usb 5-1: Manufacturer: Topseed Technology Corp.
[ 627.659057] usb 5-1: SerialNumber: TS0000kJ
[ 627.667054] Registered IR keymap rc-rc6-mce
[ 627.667162] rc rc0: lirc_dev: driver ir-lirc-codec (mceusb) registered at minor = 0
[ 627.667210] input: Media Center Ed. eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver (1784:0008) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.2/usb5/5-1/5-1:1.0/rc/rc0/input7
[ 627.667247] rc0: Media Center Ed. eHome Infrared Remote Transceiver (1784:0008) as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.2/usb5/5-1/5-1:1.0/rc/rc0
[ 627.667257] mceusb 5-1:1.0: Registered Topseed Technology Corp. eHome Infrared Transceiver on usb5:3
the red light on the receiver flashes when i press remote control buttons but irw shows nothing. mode2 also shows nothing. i have tried with lircd.conf from lirc website for a rm-vr1 remote (which is what mine is, and i used this when it was working 3 months ago), but still nothing.

i have tried running lircd with both /dev/lirc0 and /dev/lirc/0 (both exist) but there is no output or errors (when running in combination with irw).

any idea what to try next?

I also use 0.9.0, and irw returned nothing. But the remote works without any configuration. My remote is antec fusion remote 100, and the receiver is sound graph one. I learned that lira 0.9.0 is quite different from previous 0.8 series the remote works as devinput.

that makes it tricky to test. i put a little .lircrc into my home directory attempting to control mplayer but no luck (i don't know if .lircrc is wrong or something else). how does it know to use .lircrc in my home directory while the root is running lircd?
