Colors for menus etc

Lots of people seem to want to know which number represents which color for LILO graphical boot menus.

There is _no_ set equivilence between a certain number and a certain color..

The color codes are actually index numbers that reference the bitmap image's palette.

Colour 0 (zero) is the first entry in the images palette, color 1 (one) is the second and so on.

Most image manipulation software worth using lets you examine and edit the palette.

Using colors already in the images palette ensures no extra colours are used, which could exceed the maximum number of colors that can be displayed on the screen and cause problems.

It appears that you can only reference colors 0-15 in the palette.

A kernel will boot, but there is not much reason to do it, except for a boot disk where a boot loader takes up limited space.
