Question Kick off dolphin from terminal emulator inside KDE

Dear all,
I try to kick off dolphin from regular user account after executing "su -" from terminal emulator inside KDE, but got a error:
Code:
<unknown program name>(10707)/: KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "dbus-launch failed to autolaunch D-Bus session: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.
"

<unknown program name>(10706)/: KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.
Is this something to do with xwindow authorization? Please help.

regards,
ethereal1m

Try " kdesu dolphin ".
If you get an error (as happens in Slackware 13.0), then try " kdesu 'dolphin --nofork' ".

there's a bug open that makes kdesu for dolphin doesn't act as root but instead as a regular user. Any other ideas?

You do not do 'su' before running 'kdesu'. i.e. Start kdesu as a normal user.

According to KDE forum:
Quote:
This is a known bug, caused by the inability to contact KLauncher in the root session due to being unable to setup the D-Bus session bus properly.
See http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=87032

That bug report refers to the inability to launch other programs from within dolphin running under kdesu. You can still use dolphin to perform file operations (copying, moving, deleting) from within kdesu.
If you want to launch other programs while using a file manager running within kdesu, then I suggest using thunar, i.e. 'kdesu thunar'.
PS- If you search this forum, you will find an old thread that discusses this topic.

Perhaps my prior thread here is useful to you. It goes through running "a root version" of dolphin/konqueror.

Yes.
A tip for running thunar, so it uses icons, is to a create a file .gtkrc-2.0 in the home directory for a user (/root for root) containing this line.
Code:
gtk-icon-theme-name="Tango"
